Jazz is and will always be one of my passions. It was acutally my first. My way into jazz started with studying saxophone under the tutelage of Dr. Damani Phillips. For those of you that don’t know, Dr. Phillips is an incredible saxophonist, composer, and educator. He is also the first African-American to earn the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies, an amazing historic accomplishment. And he’s from my hometown of Yakistan (Pontiac, Michigan.)
