New Video: Kevin Bene “Amen” (Cover) | @KevBene @Key_Wane @JahlilBeats

There’s no doubt that “Amen”, one of the standout tracks on Meek Mill’s new mixtape Dreamchasers 2, is too dope. I knew that my friend Kevin Bene, who’s was my roommate the while I was at Michigan State and currently working on his Masters in Jazz Studies at the Manhattan School of Music, was making music utilizing the loop pedal. I sent him this track and told him to mess with it. A couple days later, he sent me this video, where he’s reconstructs the beat and improvises over it…..all in one take. Check it out above.

New Post: Looking Forward

My friend saxophonist Marcus Elliot recently had a release party in East Lansing for his quartet’s debut album Looking Forward. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend. So when Marcus told me that another release party was happening in Ann Arbor at the Kerrytown Concert House, I knew I couldn’t miss it. Although Kerrytown is a beautiful intimate setting, it was packed to the point where Click Here To Continue Reading…

New Post: Recital Revival.

Around this time up at college campuses, a lot of senior/end of the year recitals start popping up, where one can view an artist showcasing what they’ve learned musically in college and over the years. Honestly, I’m not a fan of some senior recitals, due to the fact that some contain an underlying theme of boring that I just can’t rock with. However, there a few that are definitely worth checking out. Such was the case last weekend, when I was blessed to have an opportunity to catch the senior recital of Click Here To Continue Reading…

New Music: Marcus Elliot Quartet “Looking Forward”

My homie Marcus Elliot is a jazz studies major in his 3rd year up at Michigan State. Easily one of the illest musicians I know, and the quality of music he puts out definitely reflects the work he’s put into his craft. This is title track to Marcus’ debut project, which will first be available April 23rd, at his album release party at the Kerry Concert House in Ann Arbor. Be on the lookout for more music from Marcus on my site in the next few months. Listen and Download below.

New Music: Noah Jackson “Revelation”

I am very pleased to be bringing this post to you all. To do the utmost justice, I need to give a little background…this may be a little longer than my normal posts, but it’ll definitely be worth the read.

So I had met Noah Jackson my freshman year in college. We both started college at the same time as music majors, specifically Jazz Studies. Jazz Studies is a very niche major at most universities, so we were always around each other all the time. Let me be totally honest with you all: My freshman year, I suffered from being very myopic. Thus, from a social standpoint, Noah and I didn’t really get along with each other. However, on a musical level, Noah was one of the illest musicians out of all the freshman (next to me of course, haha), and even though we didn’t get along at first, when we had shows and would performed together, the music was so dope it was as if we had been on the bandstand performing with each other our whole lives… Anyways, as the weeks went by, we ended up becoming really good friends. I learned a lot about how to understand and deal with people that freshman year, haha.

Fast forward to now, Noah has earned his Bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University, and is now in New York City working on his Master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, one of the most prestigious schools in the world when it comes to jazz. Amazing….and also proves the point to find something you truly love, work hard at it, and you will definitely be awarded.

Noah has been working for the last couple of years on his debut album, titled “Contemplations: A Suite”. I’ve heard some of the tracks, and it is a classic project. There is a release party for this album that will take place this Saturday (Cliff Bells in Detroit)…I will go into further detail about his album tomorrow. In the meantime, take a listen to one of the records from his album called “Revelation”. It’s definitely not your mother or father’s kind of jazz, and has some funk throughout it that’s sonically pleasing.

I need you all Listen and Download below. This track is so dope and doesn’t disappoint at all.
